Social media is the new black but what utimately what is if for?
Is it a method of self promotion, a broadcast for companies to promote new products, a form of networking?
Perhaps it's all of those...
The boom, I think, started with FriendsReunited but this has died a death when the owners tried to release it's comercial capital. It really isn't used by those who are in the know. But did the owners try to release the capital too early? or is the comercialisation of the site not in charging users.
The major players are Twitter, Facebook and linked in.
Facebook has taken a dominance in the market at the moment but Twitter is the young pretender and to me seems to be the more business like. Personally I connect on a business level using Twitter and Linkedin but use Facebook for my personal playground, my difficulty is when someone crosses as a business associate and a personal friend?
Ultimately we are only at the very beginning of Social Media and social networking so there is many more applications for these platforms and Thomas Power chairman of Ecademy says that the winner of the game is the one with all the names, I would refine that and as the winner is the one with the quality connections.
